Technical Support Engineer – Graduate – Optics/Photonics – South East – OS/RC28

Salary: DOE Approx. 30k

Job Term: Permanent / Full Time

Job Outline:

A global leader in optical design software, is now searching for an optical customer support engineer to join their growing team.

The successful candidate will provide technical support on optical design software, which is used across a broad range of applications and optical systems. Systems include space telescopes, biomedical instruments, lasers and more.

Interacting with engineers and scientists, who are the foremost experts in their fields, you will be able to spot and balance aberrations, know how to set the PSF grid for image simulation calculations, and accurately tolerance an optical system for manufacture.

In this rewarding position, a strong background in optical theory and design is necessary to provide technical support to clients.

In addition to providing customers with professional technical support, you will also get the challenging responsibility of investigating potential bugs in software and testing new features in each new software release.

As you continue to develop and grow with the company, you will be given the opportunity to teach training courses. You will also give demonstrations to potential new customers, and interact with customers at trade shows and conferences.

The successful candidate will be degree qualified in Optics or Physics.

Applicants should have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong problem-solving skills.

Experience with CAD software would be advantageous.

Fluency in English is necessary. Language skills in German or French would also be advantageous in this role, but not necessary.


Experience presenting to and/or teaching groups of other optical engineers and scientists would be beneficial.

Experience with customer interaction would also be advantageous.


Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
