Process Development Engineer – Organic Semiconductor – Manchester – UE/IM1172

Salary: Negotiable, according to experience, c£30k – £40k per annum

Job Outline:

A leading developer of cutting-edge organic semiconductor materials, is now looking for an additional Process Development Engineer to join their Manchester based team.

Reporting to the Process Development Manager and working alongside the materials development team, you will support demonstration and validation of the performance of the developed materials and processes.

Your main responsibilities will be testing and characterisation of thin organic films.

This will include the mechanical testing of thin organic films, adhesion flexibility, hardness etc.

Duties will also include chemical testing of thin organic films, FRIT, DSC, TGA, viscosity, chemical resistance, HPLC and other test requirements.

Electrical Testing will include quantifying the dielectric constant and dielectric breakdown strength.

Characterisation of component films will include spin curves, thickness and cure curves.

Working in an R&D and pilot production environment, you will be involved in a broad range of duties in characterisation, test and development of processes. There will be additional responsibilities, above those detailed in this advert.

This role will require your flexibility to adapt to differing duties according to the products and projects at the time.

In addition to the above, your duties will include as generation of technical data sheets, experimental design and application testing with accurate and thorough record keeping, as well as document control principles with application to an R&D environment.


You will be qualified to a minimum of BSc level in Physics, Electronic Engineering or Materials Science.


As the successful candidate you will have around 2 or more years’ experience as a Process Development Engineer in the semiconductor industry. Ideally including experience working in semiconductor fabrication at an R&D and pilot production scale, with process metrology experience.

You should have experience of working in a cross-functional laboratory and cleanroom environment, from a start-up to manufacturing scale would be highly desirable.
