A well-established market leader in the field of ‘Specialty’ optical fibers, is now looking for two Fibre Fabrication Technicians to join their growing team.
Reporting to the Production Manager, this full-time, permanent shift role is primarily responsible for the fabrication of preforms. Tasks include:
In addition, the successful applicant may be trained to operate the drawing tower including coating changes and set-ups for all fiber types which are released as ‘production-ready’, when cover is required.
This role will suit you if you enjoy ‘hands on’ work and are very detail conscious. You will need to be able to work to a high degree of accuracy, have manual dexterity and the ability to maintain concentration over long periods of time. Working as part of a small shift, good team work and effective communication with your colleagues will be essential.
As this job may involve climbing up and down the draw tower’s 20m of steps multiple times a day, the successful applicant will need to be physically fit enough to operate the tower and be willing to work under a minimum amount of supervision, often alone.
Experience and Qualifications:
As the successful Fiber Fabricator it is preferred that you have previous experience in a similar role, although training can be provided.
You should have a good basic education including 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), grade C and above, including Maths and Science. You will also need to be able to understand written and verbal instructions in English, and be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK. Copies of Passports and Visas will be requested for verification purposes.
Shift pattern: Week 1 (days) – Monday 0600-1800; Tuesday to Thursday 0550-1800
Week 2 (nights) – Monday to Wednesday 1800-0600 following day.
