A leading developer of scientific instruments who is experiencing strong growth is now looking for a Head of Mechanical Engineering to provide leadership to the Mechanical Design team, at their facility in Oxfordshire.
The Head of Mechanical Engineering will play a pivotal role in defining and developing my client’s technology and products as it prepares to enter a new and exciting phase of the business.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director you will provide direct leadership and mentoring of existing staff in the mechanical engineering and development teams.
Following existing NPD procedures and processes you will ensure engineering and development projects are well documented and are run efficiently and to maximise the impact of the team.
Where processes are not yet in place you will gain consensus and ‘buy in’ across the business you will act as a driver for improvement and a champion for change.
Working alongside the senior management team you will support a technology and NPD roadmap which ensures the security of the current level of profitable business whilst enabling future growth.
You will ensure that the mechanical engineering team is providing the necessary support and interface to Production Engineering and the Production teams.
Project managing all aspects of design and development tasks, you will adhere to Engineering Change and Life Cycle Management processes to ensure successful on-time project delivery.
On occasions you may be required to visit customers customers to better understand end user requirements and to keep up to date with the current state of the art.
Through regular meetings with suppliers you will review progress to plan, technology risks and process improvements with a view to cost optimisation and quality.
As the successful Head of Mechanical Engineering you will hold a Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant scientific discipline.
A qualification in CAD, ideally Solid Edge or Solidworks would be advantageous.
In addition to your CAD skills / qualifications, you should have practical experience of R&D, including a proven track record of project management and delivery to market of new products.
Further you will have a proven track record of leading teams consisting of multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists.
Ideally you will hold a Project management qualification.
To support your meetings with customers and suppliers, it is expected you will have experience I sales or business development and customer-facing program management.
Candidates MUST be eligible to work and live in the UK. Copies of Visa and Passport will be requested.
Candidates MUST hold a full clean UK Driving Licence.
