A market leading developer of optical devices is now looking for an Optical Test Engineer to join their Southampton facility.
You will be mainly working in an applied production/research environment producing optical devices for commercial sales.
The primary responsibility of the role is to assist with optical production, assembly and characterisation of devices for Product Delivery, and to provide test feedback into Research and Development activities.
The successful Optical Test Engineer will be responsible for the optical characterisation facility which includes lasers, optics and precision alignment in a controlled test environment.
Although primarily an optical assembly, test and problem-solving role, additional familiarity with associated processes for handling of optical materials, such as cleaning, dicing and polishing of optical chips will be an advantage.
Some general administration will be required as part of the role, including analysis and reporting of results findings, and the documentation / updating of processes, test results, and bespoke reports for the research activities.
Ideally you will hold a minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree or higher in a relevant Physics, Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline, plus significant assembly / test experience gained in a commercial lab.
Through working in a commercial lab you should have experience of optical component measurement/characterisation, and the use of optical fibres or waveguides.
You should also have had exposure to R&D in an optics setting and worked with class 1 lasers.
Although not essential, preference will be given to candidates who have experience in programming: Python/Labview; packaging, assembly and testing of optical components and modules.
Candidates MUST be eligible to live and work in the UK. Copies of Passport and Visa will be requested for verification.
There may be occasional travel between sites, and therefore candidates MUST hold a clean driving licence and have their own transport.
Skills: Optical Test, Optical Fibres, Fibre Optics, Lasers, Assembly, Packaging.
