Our client, the global leader in the field of ‘specialty’ optical fibres, is now looking to recruit an experienced Senior Applications Engineer who has theoretical and application knowledge of optical fibres.
This role would suit either a fibre optics engineer with a desire to step across to a broader technical remit whilst gaining more commercial exposure or a technical support engineer already embedded within a customer support role. The role is predominantly desk based with the requirement to carry out ad-hoc experimental work, so experimental skills are required.
Based at the company headquarters in Southampton you will report to the Sales and Technical Business Development Manager.
On a daily basis you will provide technical support via phone, email and face-to-face communication with customers’ technical teams.
In addition, you will provide written and verbal technical support to the international sales team and distribution network to ensure correct product selection for the customer’s needs.
You will also be expected to attend major international trade shows to assist with the sales effort on the trade show booth and presenting at technical conferences.
Your experimental and analytical work will identify customer problems or product performance issues and present these to the customers and our client’s production or development teams to enable a solution to be identified.
As the Senior Applications Engineer you will provide support to all customers enquiries, feedback product improvements and new product suggestions to the Development and Engineering Teams.
From time to time, you may be required to visit customer facilities and assist on optimizing processes within their production line, imparting company / product know-how for best practice.
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful applicant must have a good university degree or higher in a science-related subject and have a strong technical and analytical ability. A minimum of 5 years’ experience with optical fibre is highly advantageous.
Being a customer facing role, the ability to add technical value to customer projects will be essential, as is the ability to write technical documentation in a clear and easy to understand format.
Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK. Copies of Passports and Visas will be requested for verification purposes.
Skills: Applications Engineer, Sales Support, Customer Support, NPI, Reporting, Product Documentation, Experiments, Technical Support Engineer.
